Ovechkin is 37 years old and in his 18th NHL season, but he remains one of the most productive goaltenders.

Ovechkin has nine times scored 50 goals in a season and won his first Stanley Cup in his 13th season in 2018.

Ovechkin also stated, "I think it's just to show respect, and it's history for them as well," regarding the gesture.
