I've always joked that my back acts up at the worst times, so I was stressed by the holiday season.

Gaines called the forced rest "a gift to simply stay put, stare at the wonder all around, and be still"

Gaines posted photos of herself in a hospital bed, wearing sunglasses and making a peace sign, as well as photos from her couch by a fire.

Microdiscectomy is minimally invasive spine surgery because it requires a small incision and a microscope or surgical glasses, according to the Hospital.

The procedure relieves pain caused by a herniated disc pressing on a nerve root. The surgeon removes disc, bone, and ligament fragments to free the nerve.
